Stop Being a Hustler

I’ve always hated the term “side hustle” but couldn’t quite figure out why. Now I know. I was reading one of Seth Godin’s recent blog posts and he said:

“Want to change the mind of a hustler, show the money.”

That’s why I hate that term. When I’ve engaged in projects outside of my “day job” in the past it has usually been about getting experience and learning. It hasn’t been about the money. It never will. That’s why I also hate the term “side gig”.

Happiness has no price. When I take on a project I’m getting something more important than money. I’m learning. I’m sharpening my mind. I'm gaining an understanding and knowledge that I can share with others. Sometimes through a different lens or perspective than the original intent.

 Money is great but it’s a by-product of doing great things. Things you truly enjoy.

I’m currently working on two projects. I’m learning a lot. I’m not getting paid. I’m happy.

Could they lead to making money? Probably. Most likely. But that’s not one of my project objectives.

Stop being a hustler. Stop doing gigs. Start being happy.

Go be great.
